The bureau’s campaign won Gold in the category of Magazine Advertising Campaign, Print Advertising at the local competition in February. The same ad campaign also earned a Special Judge’s Award, which is an optional, additional distinction that the judges can bestow on a campaign they want to distinguish for standing out among all the work submitted.

The advertising campaign then advanced to the district-level American Advertising Federation Awards competition in April, at which it earned a Silver.

The campaign was concepted, designed and implemented by Birmingham based digital marketing experts, who have been the bureau’s advertising agency since 2009. Although the entire campaign was created around 10 themes, only four were able to be submitted for consideration. The campaign was represented by ads promoting the arts, the outdoors, wine and cuisine.

“We wanted to convey the experience of Fredericksburg in a provocative way,” creative director Trish Rawls said, “and underlining a visually compelling and experiential image with third party accolades is hard to ignore.”

Ernie Loeffler, president and CEO of the Fredericksburg bureau, also noted, “We are extremely delighted about the awards that our advertising campaign received. We felt that our new ads were reflective of cutting-edge trends in print advertising. These awards prove that they are.”

The magazine ads were seen in printed publications such as Texas Highways, Texas Monthly, Garden & Gun, Edible Austin, D Magazine, San Antonio Magazine, Southern Living, Midwest Living, German Life, Houstonia, Southwest Art, among others.

The American Advertising Awards, formerly the ADDYs, is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition. Conducted annually, the local phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
